Tillage Farmer • BASE Ireland Member • FFN Ambassador
Andrew Bergin is a tillage farmer from Co. Kildare, where he and his wife Antoinette manage a 130-hectare arable farm producing crops such as wheat, barley, oats, peas, beans and oilseed rape.
With over 30 years of farming experience, Andrew has increasingly focused on soil health and biological farming systems.
For several years he has practiced no-till crop establishment, using cover crops and careful rotations to improve soil structure, boost microbial life, and reduce reliance on chemical inputs. His integrated crop management approach has eliminated insecticide use in recent years while maintaining productive crops.
Andrew has also introduced wide pollinator margins, flowering field edges and tree planting across the farm, creating valuable habitat for birds, insects and wildlife. Actively involved in farmer-led learning, he is a member of BASE Ireland and has contributed to initiatives such as the Danu EIP and the Protecting Farmland Pollinators Project. Andrew is passionate about sharing practical knowledge that helps farmers work with their soils and biodiversity on their land.
As Farming for Nature Ambassador, Andrew champions soil health, biological farming, and biodiversity, highlighting the link between good farming and good food..
