Dr. Kelly Jowett is an entomologist at Rothamsted Research working on the design of cropping systems and landscapes to reconcile crop and livestock production with biodiversity and ecosystem services. She has a particular interest in the functional biodiversity of carabid and dung beetles and working directly with farmers to apply her research.
Kelly completed her PhD on the modelling of carabid beetle distributions in farm landscapes towards effective natural-enemy pest control. She possesses specialized expertise in agricultural entomology, forestry, and agricultural systems, bridging the gap between rigorous scientific data and practical on-farm application.
She holds an MRes in Global Food Security and Development and a BSc(H) in Environmental Conservation. Beyond her scientific endeavors, Kelly integrates strong communication practices into her work to help farmers optimize ecosystem services and protect vital insect populations.
Insects, Ecosystems & Crop Production
Through her work, Kelly brings a strong voice to conversations around agricultural entomology, demonstrating how understanding insect behaviors and distributions can help modern farms reduce chemical inputs while supporting functional biodiversity.
