About Ella

Entomologist • Citizen Science Advocate

Dr. Tim Butter is the Farmer Moth Monitoring Officer for Ireland, a project funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and managed by the National Biodiversity Data Centre. Tim has been recording insects as a citizen scientist for many years, starting with butterflies but in more recent years with a growing interest in moths.

Moth Diversity & Ecosystem Functions

Moths are a very diverse group of insects and are an important element of the wider ecosystem, including acting as pollinators and as food for many predatory animals such as birds and bats.

Farmer Collaboration & Farm Biodiversity

Tim works with farmers from across Ireland to enable them to record the moths that occur on their own farms, giving a fascinating insight into the biodiversity of the farm.
