About Clive
Organic Beef Farmer • Founder of Rare Ruminare • FFN Ambassador
Clive has a passion for nature and for designing a future farming that can play a central role in restoring biodiversity and ecological function to our landscape. He raises 100% pasture-fed organic livestock on his 120-acre farm in south Co. Sligo. He has a mixed herd of adapted, traditional breeds suited to his heavy soil and to maintain the farm’s species-rich grasslands. He sells his finished beef directly to the consumer under his brand, Rare Ruminare.
Holistic Planned Grazing & Soil Protection
He uses Holistic Planned Grazing to ensure the pastures are given time to recover fully between grazing events; this strengthens the pasture, increases diversity, and improves and protects the soil.
Another critical benefit to planned grazing is that it allows for a more extended grazing season. In recent years, Clive has managed to achieve grazing all year round.
Silvopasture Systems & Creative Inspiration
In addition, he is establishing various silvopasture systems across his farm to harness the functional benefits trees can have on the landscape and his enterprise. As well as managing the farm, Clive is a working artist, illustrator and designer all his creative work is inspired by his ecological curiousity.
As a Farming for Nature Ambassador, Clive champions soil health, biological farming, and biodiversity, highlighting the link between good farming and good food.
