Ken Gill is a Farming For Nature Ambassador and an organic beef and tillage farmer based near Edenderry, Co. Offaly. Farming approximately 95 hectares, Ken manages a herd of 60–70 suckler cows, finishing all animals on a fully grass-fed diet. Since converting from conventional farming, he has developed a resilient organic system built on crop rotation, red clover swards and careful nutrient management.
His approach has improved soil fertility while maintaining strong financial performance. Ken is a firm believer in making space for nature, with mature hedgerows, species-rich field margins and extensive woodland providing valuable habitats for wildlife. He manages hedgerows sensitively, allowing them to flower and offer shelter to livestock and crops alike.
As a participant in the National Pollinator Monitoring Scheme, he has deepened his understanding of biodiversity and the role farming can play in supporting it. Ken’s work shows how productive agriculture and thriving ecosystems can go hand in hand.
As a Farming for Nature Ambassador, Ken champions soil health, biological farming, and biodiversity, highlighting the link between good farming and good food.
