About Mick

Founder • Grower • Broadcaster

Mick is the founder of GIY, an organic grower, author and broadcaster who has played a leading role in shaping Ireland’s grow-your-own movement.

 

Through his work across television, writing and education, he has helped reconnect people with food, promoting sustainable growing, local food systems and a deeper understanding of where food comes from.

Media & Storytelling

He co-presented and produced five series on food for RTÉ and Amazon Prime, including Our Farm, which tells the story of the creation of a small-scale organic farm by GIY in Waterford.

 

He also presents the award-winning Food Matters podcast.

Writing & Recognition

Mick is an Ashoka Fellow and a member of The Irish Food Writers Guild. He has written five books, the latest of which The GIY Diaries was nominated for an Irish Book Award in 2022. He has written columns on food for The Irish Times, The Irish Independent and Food & Wine Magazine.

Food & Growing

Through his work, Mick promotes growing food, sustainability and a deeper connection between people and what they eat.
