Janet Power co-runs Gorse Farm, an organic market garden near Bunclody, Co. Carlow, with her partner Jenny Watkins. Drawing on organic and no-dig principles, the farm produces leafy greens, particularly salads, supplied to local shops and restaurants, while maintaining a strong focus on soil health and biodiversity.
Janet has led efforts to build fertility naturally, producing most of the farm’s nutrient needs through composting, green manures and innovative use of organic materials. The farm has adopted a small-scale agroforestry system, dividing growing areas with native hedgerows.
Passionate about connecting people with food and farming, Janet also shares her knowledge through community engagement and advocacy for organic and small-scale agriculture.
As a Farming for Nature Ambassador, Janet champions soil health, biological farming, and biodiversity, highlighting the link between good farming and good food.
