Organic Farmer • Social Farming Host • FFN Ambassador
Tommy is an organic farmer, farming 100ac on the shores of Lough Allen, Co. Roscommon. Tommy has a deep knowledge and passion for the natural environment and, where possible, shares the rare species and habitats on his farm with visitors, including regular researchers and Social Farming Ireland.
Tommy has set up a community garden on his farm to encourage people to think about where their food is coming from through no-dig principles and reconnecting people to the soil to then care for their environment.
Important habitats and species on Tommy’s farm include intact raised bog with rare lag zone, mature native woodland, species-rich acidic grassland, Marsh Fritillary Butterfly, Large Heath Butterfly, Irish Lady’s Tresses Orchid and Mudwort.
Tommy has built over 20 ponds on his land for biodiversity and habitat management. Through his dedication to restoration, he showcases how a working organic farm can become a sanctuary for some of Ireland’s rarest wildlife and flora.
As a Farming for Nature Ambassador, Tommy champions soil health, biological farming, and biodiversity, highlighting the link between good farming and good food.
